Edward Machtinger, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Women’s HIV Program (WHP) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). His primary academic interest is the relationship between HIV and violence against women, as well as the healing power of peer support and disclosure.

His current focus is on implementing and evaluating a scalable model of trauma-informed primary care (TIPC). He co-led, with the Positive Women’s Network-USA, a national strategy group to develop and publish a practical model of TIPC to guide clinics and health systems seeking a response to the impact of trauma on their patients and care providers.
